Title: Born of a dress in Domino Fashion's lab
Post by: stray on May 30, 2013, 05:33:10 PM
http://youtu.be/8yLUSG30kyo

I've realized a little video to show how one of my dresses is made.
The video shows the entire process, from project to drawing and finishes with the  publishing.

I hope this can help other designers  to improve their works or incentivate new ones to join the designers' community.

In this video you can see how to draw the dress' shape, then how to apply the texture and how to make a good heightmap.
I've started with this simple net top because it should be just an example for show the process.

Oh, and this is the final result :D

nice done, it's just show ma that I really have to by "Photoshop for Dummies" as I do what you make by drawing all "by hand" :)

By the way, how to obtain the iamge of the projection of the volume you use at the very start. Personnally I had to draw some colours lines on the downloaded by default .PNG file of the TEX  mode to make my own references

I watched your video with great interest.
There are many questions I have about the tools used and how they interact.
Where could I read more about the process?
Or is that a trade secret.
 :)

Well done for taking the time to put that together. I wouldn't have the patience. There was no instructional sound with it, I assume, or is it my laptop playing up?.

I use essentially the same technique but don't have Photoshop (I use an old version of CorelDraw) so don't have quite the immediate gratification going from the overlayed uvw to the garment laid on the Achat model (I have to go via something like Irfanview due to the way transparency is handled). It also means that texturising isn't quite so easy too.

Of course, life would be even simpler if we could wrap on the appropriate 3D model directly, in whatever product we use.

Prias I don't understand how anyone can work with other than the uvw as a base. You're restricting yourself to a garment based on a garment, as opposed to using the full capability. More power to you.

I have looked at other products and Photoshop seems the best but there is no way that I will pay such a horrendous price for the return of a few $A

Well done Stray :)

Thank you Concerto.

I use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop for my job, so I can easily use it also for AChat.

No there aren't audio instructions, it's just a little video that shows how to do.
