In 2018, the city of Kwinana in Australia installed two drainage nets in Henley Reserve. Before these nets were installed, workers would pick up these trash by hand. The total cost of these nets came to be around $20,000 which is way more cost-effective compared to paying for manual labor. This simple invention turned out to be way more useful than anyone expected. In just four months the nets caught around 815lbs (370kg) of trash. If you are inspired to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our waters, we encourage to learn more about plastic pollution, and how it affects our earth.

To this day this incredible initiative is called “world’s largest beach clean-up project”. Environmentalist Afroz Shaz started picking up the trash from the beach back in 2015, with more and more people joining him, volunteers managed to pick up 5,3 million kilograms of trash. Versova beach in Mumbai was polluted mainly because of the direction of the wind. Since the territory itself was not a popular tourist attraction, there was no action taken to take care of the beach. Now, with the help of 1,000 volunteers, the beach is open for the public to enjoy. There are over 8 billion tons of plastic thrown into our ocean every year. If you wish to reduce your plastic waste try avoiding single-use cutlery, take away coffee cups, use your own grocery bag instead of plastic one, and buy as many plastic-free products as you can.

Stop dropping litter. Dispose of it properly.

Saltwater Brewery in Florida came up with a genius way to reduce plastic waste, by making their six-pack rings biodegradable. What is even more amazing, is that this type of packaging is completely safe for animals to snack on since they are made from barley and wheat ribbons. In an interview with Bored Panda, Saltwater Brewery explained how this idea of biodegradable six-pack rings started, "Since our inception, our goal has been to maintain the world’s greatest wonder by giving back through ocean based charities, such as Coastal Conservation Association, Surfrider, Ocean Foundation, among many others, and by being the first brewery to package and sell our beer with the Eco Six Pack Rings. The first eco-friendly six pack ring made from by-product waste and other compostable materials, E6PR is designed to replace plastic rings, which are truly damaging to our environment and the animals who live in it." Back in 1987, the Associated Press announced that around one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals were killed every year by six-pack rings, a piece of plastic, that we give so little thought about before throwing away. In today’s tragic state of plastic pollution, creating biodegradable single-use packaging is a necessity. Before you buy anything packed in plastic we encourage you to think, that you are holding something that can take up to 1000 years to dissolve.

Before you dispose of these six pack plastic rings, cut them  so they cant hurt and trap around wildlife and then place them in a bin.
Dont drop your litter, dispose of it properly and responsibly.

Durdle Door, Dorset

Part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, Durdle Door is one of the most recognisable natural landmarks in England. The view of the striking rock formation is most impressive from on top of the cliffs, but an equally enticing experience has to be swimming under the archway on a warm summer’s day. There is a path to the beach from Lulworth Cove that offers dramatic views on the way down.

                                                 Man O War Rocks

I've been to Durdle Door several times...not far up the coast from me, and we've stayed in the caravan & camping site on the top of the cliffs.
The last time I was there access to scramble up to the top of the "Door" itself had been fenced off because too much erosion had been caused by people trying to access it.
There's a rock formation jutting from the sea in a cove on the other side called 'Man O War Rocks' which is fun to swim out to, but less fun trying to get up onto the quite jagged rocks.

@ Soniaslut. I didn't know that, thanks for the extra add on.

Here's more on Dorset.

Chesil Beach (also known as Chesil Bank) in Dorset, England is one of three major shingle beach structures in Britain. Its name is derived from the Old English ceosel or cisel, meaning "gravel" or "shingle". It runs for a length of 29 kilometres (18 mi) from West Bay to the Isle of Portland and in places is up to 15 metres (50 ft) high 200 metres (660 ft) wide. Behind the beach is the Fleet, a shallow tidal lagoon. Both are part of the Jurassic Coast and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and together form an SSSI and Ramsar Site.

The beach is often identified as a tombolo, although research into the geomorphology of the area has revealed that it is in fact a barrier beach which has "rolled" landwards, joining the mainland with the Isle of Portland and giving the appearance of a tombolo.

The beach curves sharply at the eastern end, near the village of Chiswell, and forms Chesil Cove against the cliffs of the Isle of Portland, and this protects the low-lying village from flooding.
It has been the scene of many shipwrecks and was named "Dead Man's Bay" by Thomas Hardy.
The beach provides shelter from the prevailing winds and waves for the town of Weymouth, Dorset and the village of Chiswell on Portland.

This is so cool

Images of what appears to be a hovering ship have been captured as the result of a rare optical illusion off the coast of England.

David Morris took a photo of the ship near Falmouth, Cornwall.

BBC meteorologist David Braine said the "superior mirage" occurred because of "special atmospheric conditions that bend light".

He said the illusion is common in the Arctic, but can appear "very rarely" in the UK during winter.

Mr Morris said he was "stunned" after capturing the picture while looking out to sea from the hamlet of Gillan

Mr Braine said: "Superior mirages occur because of the weather condition known as a temperature inversion, where cold air lies close to the sea with warmer air above it.

"Since cold air is denser than warm air, it bends light towards the eyes of someone standing on the ground or on the coast, changing how a distant object appears.

"Superior mirages can produce a few different types of images - here a distant ship appears to float high above its actual position, but sometimes an object below the horizon can become visible."

Cashew nuts
The cashew is technically not a nut at all—it's a seed that grows on a cashew apple. Cashew apples grow on trees, scientifically called Anacardium occidentale, that are native to Brazil. The apple, with the seed still attached, is picked from the tree branch. The seed is then pulled off, dried, and steamed by hand. The apple has a sweet-sour taste.

Antarctica is covered in a sheet of ice that's 7,000 feet thick.

For reference, that's about 19 football fields. The U.S. Antarctic Program also notes that if the ice sheet ever suddenly melted, it would raise the sea level worldwide an estimated 200 feet and submerge much of the Gulf and Atlantic coastal areas of the U.S.

Aprils Supermoon - the Pink Moon is here.  Look out for it now

April's Full Moon is traditionally known as the Pink Moon, thanks to Native American time-keeping traditions.

Many of the Moon's unusual names are said to derive from the time-keeping traditions of Native American tribes.
After being adopted by colonial Europeans, the names were popularised in the 20th century by publications like the Maine Farmer's Almanac.
The names are believed to reflect seasonal changes in the landscape, such as the appearance of certain flowers or the ripening of wild fruit.

Mr Johnston said: "According to this almanac, as the Full Moon in April, this is the Pink Moon, named after the herb moss pink, also known as creeping phlox, moss phlox, or mountain phlox.

"The plant is native to the eastern United States and is one of the earliest widespread flowers of spring."

The full moon in April therefore is known as the "pink moon" named after pink flowers, known as phlox, which bloom in the springtime.

There will not be any noticeable difference in colour of the actual moon, as the name might suggest.

But you may also recognise it as the Fish Moon, Sprouting Grass Moon or Egg Moon. More importantly, however, this Full Moon will arrive near its closest orbit of Earth and that means we are about to witness a beautiful Supermoon.

As the Moon races around the globe, its elliptical orbit brings it closer or farther from us every night.
If a Full Moon appears near or at lunar perigee - lowest orbit - astronomers refer to this spectacle as the Supermoon.

The opposite is true when the Full Moon is at apogee - highest orbit - and we get to witness a smaller Micromoon.
Supermoons can appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than a Micromoon.

NASA's lunar expert Gordon Johnston explained: "This Full Moon is the first of two Supermoons for 2021.
"The term 'Supermoon' was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a New or Full Moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90 percent of perigee, its closest approach to Earth.
"Since we can't see a New Moon (except when it passes in front of the Sun), what has caught the public's attention in recent decades are Full Supermoons, as these are the biggest and brightest Full Moons for the year."

What time will the Pink Supermoon rise over the UK?
The Pink Moon will rise early on Tuesday morning, so you will have to get up in the wee hours to see it.

Astronomers estimate the Moon will reach full illumination by 4.31am BST.

But if the prospect of getting up so early seems daunting, the good news is the Moon will appear full to the naked eye tonight and tomorrow evening.

Mr Johnston said: "The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Sunday night through Wednesday morning."
