Title: Erotic Story Contest 1 ( New Year's Resolution ) OT

as I am a great fan of writing and reading erotic stories, I thought it would be a nice idea to organise a contest here on forum. I know there are some among us that like to write stories as well and I know many of the members like reading them. As a special treat for those readers, and to have something to do during the holiday season when not too busy, a number of stories with the same title might be great entertainment.

I have discussed my idea with the dev-team and they seem willing to support the idea. So I am postitng the idea to see what your thoughts are. This is the idea:

1. The title of the story could be: "New Year's resolutions"
2. The story is about 5000 words long
3. a poll where people can vote will determine the score and ranking
4. There will be an entry deadline (thinking of 23rd of december, pole closing the 31st, winner named 1st of january, 2012)
5. All stories will be accepted as long as they are posted on time and not against AChat forum rules
6. Winner, runner up and 3rd price will get a price (even if I have to give the price myself...lol)

I am really curious what you think of the idea and if you'd like to participate in this. Wether active as a contender, or active as the audience and voter. Looking forward to your replies, addition, flaws you see etc..

I will if I can find the quiet time to do it. difficult enough adding updates to the erotic fantasy tale,... which I have been working on. If necessary, I will donate the prices, since it is my inititative. If I win, well I am dutch in the end, it'll be a cheap contest...lol I was thinking first price 1000 a$, second price 600 and 3rd price 400...

Indeed I am curious if there would be enough interest, both from writers as readers.. If the reactions are ample, I will start the contest. If not, I'll just write my own new year's resolution story :)

Post by: TightFit74 on November 21, 2011, 10:01:05 AM: When I suggested the contest, I had in mind the coming holidays and the new year just around the corner. New Year's is a time for new things, everything starting all over again, just in a slightly or ometimes dramatic fashion. My suggestion is:

1. We use this thread to pose ideas about the theme of the contest. A central theme seems obvious, so everybody will have the same start.
2. In one week, monday the 28th of november, CET +1, the thread will be closed and I open a new thread for contestants to offer their story. (we should discus if you'll be allowed to edit before the deadline). Besides that thread, an OCC thread will be opened as well to keep discussing the story.
3. The new thread will stay open until Christmas eve for people to post their story. After that a poll will be opened with all the contestants names where people can vote for their favorites.
4. The poll will be closed the 31st of december, around midnight cet +1. The winner will be known then...

All suggestions are open for discussion. If anyone has a better idea, an addition or a completely different idea, please say so.. If we can agree on the rules, the contest can start soon. Again I'd like to emphasize the generous prices the A-team offered. Thanks! I hope this will become a tradition during this time of year...

I know in some countrys it's an abit to give to student a relation or similar whit a certain amount of word (it's not usually here in Italy), so i'm not sure how it can be.

Anyway, my question is: 5000 words is the max amout of words we have to use or the story must be of 5000 words!? i think the first option will be more easy forn non english peoples too...

The entry dates for stories will be 28th of november until 24th of december. After that date, no more new stories will be accepted and a poll will be created. Votes can be made until the 31st of december, winner and runners up will be known the 1st of january. There will be no seperate section on forum for it, so I will create the threads. The dev-team already told me they don't have extra manpower to create anything for us..

So dates are:

28th of november: Opening contest
24th of december: Deadline for sending in stories
24th of december: Opening of voting poll (so all stories will be voted for at the same time, to adavanages for early senders)
31st of december: Closing of poll
1st of january: Winner and runner up are named and rewarded with their price (though the last is in the hands of the A-team)

Hope this is enough info for everyone. If not, feel free to ask, suggest, oppose, etc.. What we normally do here :)

I suggested 5000 words, which is about 6 A4 pages (european) or 7-8 US sized pages (us uses shorter sheats of paper). I think 3000 words should be enough but I do like some feedback on what others consider reasonable.. Anyone else with an opinion about the length?

I do fear that, since the bulk of members is english-orientated, anyone writing in a different language either has an advantage or a disadvantage. For a contest to have at least the appearance of being honest, all rules should e applicable to all stories. So the same periferal conditions applied to all. I'd prefer english, it's language I feel comfortable with.
But again, I posted the idea, am willing to organise it all but need and want the input of forum mebers so that (almost) everyone is happy with the set-up...

Very creative idea. As long as you don't have penalty restrictions, i.e. too short, or too long "about 5000 words" is a guideline.
The suggested topic, "New Years Resolutions" might appear constricting, but suggest allowing a great deal of leeway in implementation. I suspect this will be taken care of by the "judges". The story the readers like the best will probably end up #1, and deservedly so.

In terms of commitment, I would caution people that if you volunteer as a writer, it will probably be a lot more work than you think.
Personally, I'm not sure I have the time. Also, I may not write well, but I can read a bit...........and if the story is erotic, I drool well. :-X

At least count on my support on some level. :-*

PS: Jesus. I just panned down and read some of Janine's work. At least someone has a chance to pick up second prize. ;) ;D

Though for some types of stories, the audience might be small. But there is no rule prohibting campaigning for your story on forum or in the game. Maybe the most clever one or the best campaigner will end up with the price, instead of the one that wrote the best story.. The audience, members of the forum are the judge and jury. They will decide by vting who will win.. Appeal to them draw them to your story might be the key to winning. Unless...

When posting an idea, all kinds of unforseen situation can come later as hoped or thought of. Do we allow campaigning for stories in the game? I kinda trust on the sportsmanship and fair play of the contenders, so I didn't consider cheating would be an option.. Does anyone feel the same or different?

I am reminded that every great idea risks being tarnished in its' implementation. When you first proposed this "contest" TightFit74, I visualized a group of friends sitting around, over an after-dinner drink, late at night, sharing each other's creativity. Acknowledging that gender preference is a part of life, but letting the commonality of eroticism rise above the divisiveness.

Now we are confronted with the baser aspect of human nature, in which competitiveness supercedes camaraderie, and obsession for a "prize"
detracts from the storytelling process. While I personally would be complimented that any of you found my story of merit, the thought of "campaigning" for a prize is repulsive to me. I have no intention of doing that.

My personal response to some of the more recent posts is as follows. I intend to read every story with the simple purpose of enjoying it. While I have a healthy sexual appetite, I appreciate the turn of a good phrase, the uplifting emotion that humor evokes, and when an author's spirit is infused into his or her work. I have no intention of automatically casting my vote for the entry that simply makes me masturbate the fastest. ::)

Inazuma, I am straight, but I promise to read your story with fair consideration and respect. Janine Dee, I do not know your orientation, but I very much look forward to seeing what you create. While, as any man does, I might separately fantasize about "converting" a lesbian, the inclusion of a bevi of lesbians in the story won't sway my vote. Unhealer, your posts are so out-of-left field that I genuinely am looking forward to seeing your mind unfold in a story.

In summary, I hope a few people don't reduce this to a popularity contest. However, if that happens, I hope the rest of you are motivated to entertain us for a smile and gesture of admiration, instead of a few cheap coins left on the nightstand. ;)

As far as the rewards/campaigning... *I* figured part of the reason that the AChat team is willing to award prizes like they are is to drive up interest. So I figure anything that drives up interest will be making their generous contributions worth while.

For my personal entry... I will have to feel inspired, and feel I create something worth sharing, and I've been willing to share my creative impulses for free... heck they helped inspire the creation of this part of the forum if you think back far enough.

The fact that there is a prize for doing what I do, as long as I do it with a theme of the contest? I'm okay with that.

don't think there will be someone who gonna do this....to use forum you must be premium and you have to pay even for a month and this will mean spent around 10 $. mmmmh, thinking of it, i don't know if free member can apply to poll, but i don't think so

Your point on enhancing motivation is well-taken. I like prizes too. :o. Since Tight solicited our take on "campaigning", I just wanted to voice my displeasure about losing the joy of the process while cutting corners to chase a prize. I also wanted to state to some expressing concern, that my vote would not be restricted by my sexual orientation. Considering your past contributions I never felt that you would be one of those "cheating" as Tight put it. :)

I proposed the idea because I love to write, explore my own boundries and even have the chance to cross them without stepping on someone's toes or having to consider someone else's feelings.

My hopes are that people that take the time and imagination to create a story, will respect the time and effort the other contestants put into the story and not do them wrong by cheating on the contest. I am advertising the contest for now, not specifically my story that will surely be there.

All I want is a collection of stories, written by people from the whole spectrum of AChat, giving a little peak into their imagination. Something that hopefully will draw people to the game as well, as they meet some extrordinaty minds here, when it comes to sexuality and fantasy. Besides those reasons, I would like to test my skills with others and see who can write the most appealing, if not literally best story. Wether it is me or someone else that wins the prize, the colection of stories is my reward... :)

I definitely would enjoy anything you would write Janine. I am sure many others would. :)

Like I said before I am more then happy to judge :)

I prefer to enjoy reading them ... rather then writing them. Though if someone wants to bounce ideas off me thats ok too.

Oh, and I may take you up on that Kitten, I already have an outline I suspect will turn into a story well before the 24th. So a proofreader to help polish it up probably wouldn't hurt.

As she suggested to me, people might be too busy with the holidays, family etc, there might not be enough time to value all stories the way they should... What do you say?

Which i think is overall a fair way to judge this type of competition covering a wide area of orientations. For me enjoying a story means being able to get into it there is no ewww factor with me. (Orientation wise at least).

All I can recommend to people is write what you know make believable and immersible. :)

So people that definitely do not need to worry at least about my pov on their stories. If you want to know I am happy to tell you what they are and I will be as constructive as I can after all your putting in an effort I am not.

I'd be happy if there is a hint towards the theme, whatever happens in the story is to each own choice. Maybe it is the taxidriver you take aride with to your lover that has a resolution, or you decide to take better care of the cat as you trip over it, trying to seduce your prospective partner..

Writer's prerogative. A hint to the theme is plenty in my eyes..

Ok, I have no trouble being an "equal opportunity apologizer". However, when I said "young kids", for me, that could easily include "working parents".
Perhaps the "99" for age I listed on AChat is closer to the truth than you might assume. Those of us that are closer to a "dirt nap" MAY have less pressure than the rest of you. ;)

You could possibly find someone who could take a finished work in another language and help you translate it into English. Or you could type it up and run it through a translator and have someone help polish the language that the translator would kick out.

Assuming I'm not busy writing my own story for whatever future contest we are talking about ;) I would be happy to help with that second option.

Which would essentially be what a translator program does, BUT it should be able to get it to the point where a native speaker could smooth it out.

Janine, I think your idea is wonderful. A connection between AChat and the contest could draw a bigger crowd to the stories, and could enhance the sales of the newly developed item/room. So it would depend on the a-team what the underlaying theme is. But I am open for any idea really that could give shape to a new contest.

I would like some feedback from the a-team themselves. They are sponsoring the contest and I am curious if they consider this to be a succes and if they are open for a new contest in the (near) future. Suzy, maybe you can comment on that? I'd appreciate that very much.

What I find to be the biggest hurdle is what to write, once I got something to write it's easy. My lack of inspiration was one reason, why I didn't write a story of my own for the contest.

Other than that I try to spend time making the story easier to read, formatting the text is important or it'll be hard on the reader.

It took me 3 weeks of being a member of AChat to find the forum and I did that by looking at everything on the page the shop is on. It should be promoted more so we can have more input from members. As stated befoe, we need a link in the AChat software to the forum. At least send messages to users of its existence.

And yes I think future contests would promote the forum and increase users.

lol for me to write the story now i need to know the guidelines for this time around and from what i heard i had next to nothing in votes last time kinda hard to compete with those who have been doing it a lot longer than i have ( :-* @ tight ) although i'm sure since i've been around some who have done some rp with me it was better than if i never had done any of it at all lol

Annoucing the contest now can give everybody enough time to consider, start writing and editing even before the entry and closing dates are announced. I suggested the summer, as to have 2 contests a year. I would not want to loose the support of the A-team to support the effort.

Promoting the forum/contest would be a great idea. The more people that come to the forum, will gain more influence with the dev-team. Polls could be a great tool for that, since a lot of people read, but a lot don't vote. Maybe a poll should be opened to non-paying members as well, as to draw even more attention. Up to now, posting on the forum is for paying members only..

@sexilicious you are getting better with each line you write. I am certain that with a bigger voting crowd, you would have gotten points.. ;) Keep up the good work!

So the theme is fine with me, all directions are still possible. It could serve very well as a background for all stories.I'd have trouble figuring out how I would meet my partner(s), what her role is compared to mine, what leads to the inevitable moment of flowing passion, unstoppable lust.. ;D

But there is plenty of time to discuss other themes, so dn't be shy and keep posting them. I will collect them all over time and turn them into a post, so we can choose which theme we want for the contest :)

A pose would have to be usuable for all orientations. Though with a bit of fantasie, any pose can be transferred to all orientations I think. Depenedig on what room the A-team is developing (more rooms are on the design list if I recall correct), we can maybe decide at a later point wether to incorporate it into the contest. Though I do like the idea.. The deck of a ship is a good idea for a new room... or maybe we should call them environments?

Concluding, we have 3 options so far. 1 suggestionf ro a theme, one suggestion to use something that is developed by AChat, or a combination of the two.. Incoprporating a design by the a-team into the theme has my preference.. For me, it is easier to write a story based on an underlaying theme..

I think the next contest's deadline should be somewhere in the summer. We would prefer it organized by core members, similar as the last one.
Hopefully, in this longer timespan, many participants will have enough time to create the stories.

Announcing a new erotic story contest. For anyone to enter, judge or enjoy reading. Starring the theme of the contest: SUMMER VACATION.

As discussed on forum, something from achat will be incorporated in each story, to emphasize the connection with the game, and to recognize the dev-team for sponsoring the contest. As before, there will be an entry period with a deadline, and then a voting period with a deadline as well. This time less cramped in time.

For anyone who’d like to enter, please take note of following notifications:

Rules:
1.   Please do not break regulations or laws when submitting your story.
2.   In the story, the central theme and something from Achat must be incorporated. The theme is Summer Vacation, the link to Achat must be based on a room, background or outfit, and preferably recognisably described.
3.   The length of the story must not exceed 2 posts. 1 post allows 20,000 characters. That includes spaces as well. About 5500 – 6000 is the limit per story.

Prizes:
1.   The winner of the contest will win 10.000 A$ or 1 year subscription.
2.   The runner-up will get 5000 A$ or 6 months subscription
3.   Second runner-up gets 1500 A@ or 1 months subscription
4.   All other contestantswill receive 250 A$ for submitting their stories.

If either of the podium places are shared, in the other contest first place was shared, first prize is shared and the second runner up will get 3rd prize. If 2nd place is shared, the prize will be shared and 3rd prize will not be awarded. If 3rd place is shared, both contestants will receive 750 A$.

Dates:
Submitting:    The thread will open February 1st.
Deadline:    The thread for entering your stories will be closed at 30th of June.

Voting:   The poll will be opened July 1st.
Closing:   The poll will be closed Agust 31st.
Winners will be announced September 1st.

Second is using something that is used in AChat, being it a pose, background or room. We ruled out clothing. Other suggestions have not been made..

I still plan on opening the new entry thread on february 1st. If no new suggestions are made, I will go with the combined theme. I will open a new OOC thread up tomorrow.. Maybe there we can discuss theme and rules nad maybe stay on topic a little more :)
