For several reasosn I use microsoft office. But i know open office and it's really good.

For taking screenshots I suggest bandicam. It's free and you can even record the screen (10minutes in free version). The full version costs 33 Euro.

Great topic Jayc, I'm all for saving  money.

Ok, I have a question. I usually pay for Norton to protect my computer.  I have heard though that you can get just a good a product for free.  Is there any that anyone would recommend?

Miss Brandy... check with your internet provider... here in the USA, most internet providers provide a virus/malware protection free of charge.  Mine does, and it's a pretty good one, and not obtrusive.  Maybe it's the same in the UK.

I can tell you which one NOT to get.  DO NOT get AVG.  They put a little piece into your registry that you have to go in and remove yourself.  The uninstaller will remove everything but that one piece, leaving AVG on your computer.

One of my favorites free programs is GIMP, for image editing... free and very useful.  Also, Paint.Net is good, too.

GLC Player is great for 3d rendering and modeling.

Bandicam is for free but you can also have a better version, which has to be payed. It's the same with Avira!

@ Brandy: Use Avira, as hb mentioned. There are several versions, but the free one is enough. It's always tested as one of the best anti virus software.

I was using Open Office last year but I changed to
Google Drive. They really revamped it.(spell checking, grammar) I find it comparable to MS Office.  And my documents are in the cloud but I can still save them to a PC.
But it doesn't tie me to a particular PC to work on a story. (we got 3 PC's) so I can go to any of them to write.

Just a note: If you're using any blocker, allow popups for AChat. Because if you get a pm, you will be informed by a popup.

Adblock Plus for Google Chrome or Firefox. Well worth all the ad blocks.

Actually Adblock is whitelisting companies who pay for. It can be discussed if this is legit or not but to me it looks like, "It would be so sad if all your wonderfull ads would be blocked, huh?"
So I prefer some of the blockers which don't behave like this and block all of this this useless crap no one pays bandwith for than me.
uBlock Origin for example.

And besides. If there is ad on TV I zapp away. If I watch TV at all. I hate this "buy-me"-screaming all day long. So for me an adblocker is perfectly legit.  It's just a remote control to zapp this shit away I did not invite to my home.
Next step will be TV's you can't zap while ads are aired. I bet on that.

One good piece of software to add:
Spybot Search&Destroy

SearchLock is a search engine that helps you to protect your privacy while you search the Internet. They Are Profiling You... When you search for something, ads related to your searches follow you around for days. It's common knowledge Google and other search engines are tracking and creating a detailed profile about you based on your searches.

Keep Your Searches to Yourself.  Search experiences should not result in an invasion of your privacy.

Try SearchLock. When you use SearchLock, you are protected from the big companies who are profiling you based on your searches to sell advertising. The SearchLock browser extension uses technology to detect when your search query is about to be tracked in a way that could result in ads following you around the web, re-routes it so that it isn't, then delivers your search results via an encrypted privacy-friendly results page at searchlock.com.

Prevent search engines from profiling you with SearchLock.   It’s FREE.  http://download.cnet.com/SearchLock/3000-33362_4-76440710.html

I've got a good little program to mention as well.

REVO UNINSTALLER.

I found out that after you uninstall programs it leaves somethings behind. (Folders and Registry entries).

This removes them.  It uses the programs uninstaller first and then you can scan (normal or advanced) for the things it leaves behind.  It then shows you what they are and you can select them and then delete.

Pretty easy to find on a search engine.

This is cool.

At your own pace, learn a new language, or refresh ones you know some of.
All free and 10 minutes a day.

Join Duolingo.  It's free.  You need your game email and a password.

This is a great way to do something interesting and useful especially if you are self isolating in these uncertain days of Corona Virus / Covid 19.

I found a better Reverse Image Search tool.   https://www.duplichecker.com/reverse-image-search.php
It will use 6 different search engines. The best I feel is Yandex. it will take your image and find you multiple sources
and other things even that are on that source.
I started with this...
Found it in black and white.
Then something in the same genre but unrelated to the original
(http://en.girlstop.info/cat/posts/57dac1b4200996.52645022/2.jpg)
As well as the source and other pics in that sites collection.

Input this gif...

Then was given this still photo and then other brunette Cocksuckers.
