St George’s story passed through the centuries growing in legend- but how did a man born in Cappadocia in AD 270 become the patron saint of England? Here are 10 fantastic facts about St. George’s Day

1. St. George’s Day takes place on 23rd April, which is traditionally accepted as being the date of his death in AD 303.
2. St. George was beheaded for resigning his military post and protesting against his pagan leader, the Emperor Diocletian (245-313 AD), who led Rome’s persecution of Christians
3. The Emperor’s wife was so inspired by St George’s bravery and loyalty to his religion, that she too became a Christian and was subsequently executed for her faith.
4.Before the cult of St. George was brought back from the Crusades, the top choice for England’s patron saint was Edmund the Martyr, one of the Whuffings, East Anglia’s ruling family. Edmund is also the p-saint of pandemics, torture victims, and wolves.
5. St. George is the Patron Saint of Scouting and on the Sunday nearest to 23rd April scouts and guides throughout England parade thorough the streets.
6. His emblem, a red cross on a white background was adopted by Richard The Lion Heart and brought to England in the 12th century, when the king’s soldiers would wear it on their tunics to avoid confusion in battle.

Its so sad that some people can hurt the some weaker persons. But she has a heart of Gold she forgive them amazing people .
Seattle, Washington-Police say a woman in a wheelchair was robbed of her tablet. But surprisingly, the victim forgives those that have wronged her.
“I was mostly angry because they scared me and made me feel unsafe,” said the victim, Carolyn.
Carolyn isn't worried about her stolen Samsung Nook tablet; she's worried about you.
"I just think that if they'll target me, they'll target anyone,” she said.
She and her husband are living with cerebral palsy. They visit Northgate Mall often where she works on Christian book reviews and huddles with him to talk.
"He's kind and thoughtful and funny,” said Carolyn.
They were enjoying a Friday afternoon together when the two guys you see on surveillance video started watching them. Carolyn took notice.
"I didn't want to engage them because they were kind of scary looking,” she said.
In the video, you can see the suspect in the red t-shirt lingering across from them. He's quickly joined by another guy in a black coat with a hoodie, wearing gray pants and a ball cap.
They talk for a few minutes and then the guy in black walks off screen. Seconds later, the man in the red-tshirt strikes, ripping her tablet right out of her hands, according to the footage.
Carolyn has forgiven the two young men. She says she feels sorry for them.
Thankfully, she had all of her work backed up and her husband bought her a new tablet. She's telling her story though because she's worried they won't stop and their next victim will be you.

A referendum on whether Scotland should be an independent country will take place on Thursday 18 September 2014.
Following an agreement between the Scottish Government and the United Kingdom Government, the Scottish Independence Referendum Bill, setting out the arrangements for this referendum, was put forward on 21 March 2013, passed by the Scottish Parliament on 14 November 2013 and received Royal Assent on 17 December 2013.
The referendum question, as recommended by the Electoral Commission, will be "Should Scotland be an independent country?" - voters can only answer yes or no. With some exceptions, all residents in Scotland over 16 can vote, this represents over 4 million people - only a simple majority is required to win.
Many issues have been raised during the campaign including which currency an independent Scotland would use, public expenditure and North Sea oil. Opinion polling indicates the vote will be close.
Only Scottish people can vote.

This September 14th weekend, we celebrate the 200th anniversary of our National Anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” As we honor America’s determination over the British during the battle at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, we can also peel aside the layers of the past to understand how this incredibly special song came to be and the passion behind it.
Author and presidential historian Jane Hampton Cook explains Francis Scott Key learned a close friend, a physician, had been captured by British forces as the War of 1812 lingered on. Key approached President Madison to ask permission to locate Dr. William Beans and the British vessel where he was being held prisoner. In quite a feat of detective work, Key located Beans and negotiated with the British Navy. Cook takes it from here, “They agreed to release him, but they told Key and Dr. Beans they had to stay with the British ship until after the British attacked Baltimore.” So Key was trapped on the enemy ship, “watching the rockets and the bombs as they hit Ft. McHenry.” The military assault was incredible, so Key was very relieved when he saw the American flag still waving atop the fort the next morning. That inspired Key to compose the lines, “And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there, O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?”
The last stanza of the Star-Spangled Banner gives a direct credit to God, “O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation! Blest with victory and peace may the heav’n rescued land, Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto – ‘In God is our trust,’ And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave

How did we survive?
- It really makes you think – especially since many children today are wrapped in cotton wool
and we were free to run around and have fun!
- Our sandwiches contained leftover roast chicken; we didn’t have fridges in classrooms
or ice bricks in our lunch boxes, but we didn’t get food poisoning. - We rode bikes without helmets or adult supervision or bike paths
but we mostly just ended up with scarred knees. - Our mothers wiped our faces with spit on a hanky not an antibacterial wipe.
- Tuckshop was sausage rolls and cream donuts but kids were wiry and fast.
- Our parents rarely knew our teachers’ names, let alone their NAPLAN prep strategy.
- When our teachers would whack us, we wouldn’t tell our parents for fear
of getting punished again, so we avoided trouble in the first place. - What was said on the playground stayed on the playground.
- We went on camps and excursions without 18 forms to be signed and witnessed.
- As toddlers, we rode in supermarket trolleys without padded trolley liner thingys.
- Angry teachers were treated with caution. We just prayed for a nice one next year.
- Weekends were about our parents’ social lives. As kids,
we played Murder in the Dark while parents talked with their friends and forgot we existed. - Generally, we went to the closest school, not the best one.
- We got ourselves to Saturday sport and told tall tales about how the win was won.
- Helping with the washing up was as important as homework.
- When a kid was injured, people felt sorry for her parents.
They didn’t ask what the hell were they thinking letting her climb that tree anyway. - Cubby houses were built by kids not bought from Toys R Us.
- If you did badly in a test, you got a talking to, not a cuddle.
- A pocket-knife was a perfectly acceptable gift for a 10-year-old.
- If anyone got air conditioning in their bedroom, it was mum and dad.
- Family holidays came before kids’ sporting schedules.
- A teacher could put mercurochrome on a scraped knee without obtaining
our parents’ permission and completing an ‘incident report’. - A playdate was walking to a friend’s house, ringing the doorbell and saying,
‘Can Cathy come and play?’ - You could offer your friend a bite of your hot dog.
- If the bus driver yelled at you, the bus driver didn’t get in trouble, you did.
- If you didn’t make a team, you tried harder or tried something else.
- Pass the parcel had one winner.
- There was one kind of milk. It was full cream and it was delicious.
- Meat was bought at the butcher, and was packed without a use-by date.
Our parents used their noses to tell if the mince was off. - Getting one present on your Christmas wish list was good result.
- Drives of longer than an hour happened without supplies of rice crackers and juice.
- Going to the shops/church/the nursing home to visit Nan was boring as hell
but could be endured without an iPad. - School holidays were about not being at school,
not soccer workshops, art classes and pony camp. - Being tired was no excuse for being rude.
- You had to do something great to get a ‘student of the week’ award.
Not just show up at school!

Hi Jess *hugz* TY for your kind n true words. Andrea n me have had our "cobblestone" moments... the biggest bump just over two years ago. At 37ish weeks prego... engulfed in a tempest of hormones, my needs on steroids as were my insecurities. But it was all of those "bumps", getting through them together, with honesty n care that brings us closer. Love can't be faked, it is empty without commitment. without the will to fight for it. Requiring us to be ALL IN.
Speaking of LOVE and being ALL IN.... though Andrea is my addiction, Ryleigh my just 2 YO is my world, ruler of my heart. My first... n first experience of such overwhelming feelings. A feeling i believe only a mother experiences. Sry guys, nothin personal.

BOO… its October
One of my fav months aside from winter, with one of my fav holidays ;D Halloween and one of my fav causes… Breast Cancer Awareness. The 3rd leading killer of women behind Heart disease and Lung cancer.
Whether you donate time, possessions, money or just forward the message… anything to push the movement along, every little bit helps. Pebble or boulder matters not... each casts the same number of ripples. Great strides have been made because of those that help.
I know some of us here walk between other worlds and without getting in too much trouble… would like to give PanCDCA from one of those “other” worlds a BIG shout out for an event they are organizing over the weekend of Oct 17-18th … will include many DJ’s n Dance teams. I plan to be there… with Andrea. Hope to see some of the "usual suspects" from here.

Technically, Saturn will be 10 au (astronomical units) from Earth, and Jupiter will be 5 au away, but they will appear to be less than the diameter of a full moon apart.
To catch a glimpse of the phenomenon for yourself, make sure you have a clear view to the southwest about 45 minutes after sunset. The planets will be at their closest on Dec. 21, but the "Christmas Star" will be visible from anywhere on Earth for about one hour after sunset in the northern hemisphere for the entire fourth week of December. If you're viewing with a telescope, you may also be able to see Jupiter and Saturn's largest moons orbiting them that week. The next Great Conjunction this close won't happen until March 15, 2080, so be sure to take a peek out your window later this month for a brilliant holiday treat.

Wow, has it been two years already? My memory of that day still vivid… getting a chance to mingle, meeting some of your “other” friends while Andrea was busy with you two, part of your ceremony.
Though lucky to find each other… there is no such luck in staying together. Commitment can’t be faked, it requires your time. And look at you both… still just as full of each other as you were two years ago. Never forgetting the feeling and reasons that got you here.
A sucker for Love n Happy endings... I’m happy for YOU both… and thank YOU both for making all of the worlds you visit… better.

It was a great day made all the better by Andrea for standing up for Vaughan and witnessing the collaring part of the ceremony. It meant so much to both us. Having all of our friends around us and Jersey as my man of honor...lol he was such a great friend... made it all the more special. Thank you for remembering it. I remember too the haiku you wrote the following day about it.
We went back the past two days to visit. :) Was a great 730th honeymoon hahaha.
We plan on opening the Soap again soon and will keep you posted. Would love to have you and Andrea there.

Sometimes it’s not the story but the storyteller that keeps me coming back… post by post. Such is the case with Bear’s story TALON… not at all my genre but I’ve been sucked in regardless. Quickly devouring each epi upon release, falling further down the writer’s hole. ;D Well done n thank you for sharing.

Did you know IRELAND’S only leprechaun whisperer is Kevin Woods from Co Louth. He can communicate with the remaining 236 leprechauns.
He first encountered leprechauns in the Cooley Mountains over two decades ago.
