I wish all a happy Thanksgiving… and for those who don't celebrate it, I hope you take a moment to reflect on the original intent of the holiday

I do a lot off volunteer work in this stage of my life… one of tasks is deliveries of Meals on Wheels to the less fortunate. These are low income families and primarily elderly folks living on the edge of poverty. We delery prepared meals for them, and for some it is the only substance they have.

I give thanks for people like the tireless old chef of the local Meals on Wheels. He has been working his tail off in preparation of this day with a goal of preparing 500 meals for delivery. That is almost 5& of the local population… many now living in substandard housing which are truly unsafe especially after last weeks windstorm. (We had 48 hours of constant winds exceeding 60 miles an hour…)

I did deliveries yesterday and was shocked as I weaved  thru the destruction of a community I had not heard one mentioned of in the news. It was a scene as devastating as any Eastern hurricane could wreck. It reminded me of my good fortune that although my house suffered damage.. I have the means to repair and move on. These folks do not have that fortune.

so I remind all to take a moment and reflect…to find within yourself appreciation and the recognition of good fortune of your life, of the things that truly matter,… of substance and shelter, good friends… and first and foremost family. Embrace the moment that you have with them for situations may change.
