it was not called WW 1 most people called it The Great war during that time.
so the sword would not have WWI on it.

I think it's not “World War One” marked on the sword but “World War”
Because the Second World War took place in 1939 they could not have known a few months later that there will a second World War

@blue and dustin: I'm sorry I didn't mean it bad or funny. I knew that America was neutral in the beginning and then gave weapons and goods. Actually they also have sent soldiers in 1917…sorry again.

I'm not so practice with American Forces and probably Nat and Dustin had hit the answer, but………not sure but isn't Battalion 8 a logistic one!? so, it probabily isn't a fight unit

its basic history, it really as nothing to do with being American. After world war one and before WWII. it was called The Great War. so if a man got a sword with engravings on it. it would say

To Captain Smith for Bravery, Daring and Leadership, The Great War, from the Men of Battalion 8.”
not
To Captain Smith for Bravery, Daring and Leadership, World War One, from the Men of Battalion 8.”

because there was no secant war at the time, so it would not be called WW1.

Heres a simple one.

A father and his son are in a car accident. The father dies at the scene and the son is rushed to the hospital. At the hospital the surgeon looks at the boy and says “I can't operate on this boy, he is my son” …. How can this be?

Alexander is stranded on an island covered in forest.

One day, when the wind is blowing from the west, lightning strikes the west end of the island and sets fire to the forest. The fire is very violent, burning everything in its path, and without intervention the fire will burn the whole island, killing the man in the process.

There are cliffs around the island, so he cannot jump off.

How can the Alexander survive the fire? (There are no buckets or any other means to put out the fire)
