Denmark star Christian Eriksen was reported to be in a stable condition after collapsing during the first half of Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 match against Finland in Copenhagen.
The match was suspended following prolonged efforts from the medical staff to resuscitate Eriksen with CPR and a defibrillator after he fell to the ground during a throw-in, shortly before the end of the first half.
Eriksen was rushed to the hospital, per multiple reports, and was stable and able to communicate with his father.
It was a scary couple of minutes, as Eriksen fell down and wasn’t responsive upon being hit from behind with an errant pass. What initially looked like an innocent moment turned terrifying when paramedics rushed onto the field to give Eriksen CPR and other life-saving tactics.
UEFA opted to postpone the match until later in the day, which both teams agreed to once it was revealed that Eriksen was, at least for now, reportedly in the clear.
The Danish soccer federation released the following update on Eriksen: “Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable. He remains hospitalized for further examinations.

NEWS UPDATE: Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen was given chest compressions (CPR) after collapsing on the field during this European Championship game against Finland.
Eriksen fell to the ground near the sideline late in the first half and was immediately surrounded by medical personnel.
English referee Anthony Taylor called medics on to the pitch and Eriksen underwent prolonged treatment, with his team-mates formed a shielding wall around him to give him privacy as the medics treated him. He was being given CPR and a defibrillator used.
Fans inside the stadium fell silent after being left stunned by the incident, with some pictured in tears as Eriksen’s team-mates also wept.
The match has been suspended.
Thoughts are with Denmark and with the player’s family.
Update 2: The Danish FA says Christian Eriksen is awake and waiting more tests in hospital.
Update 3: Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition is stable.
Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC).
The last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.
